Help the child with math if needed

Each and every child is unique and with time they develop their choices in subjects of their liking and disliking. A number of children find math to be a very easy subject hence it becomes their favorite in the starting years. But as they grow and math becomes more complex they begin to get jitters. This is the time when the parents should think of interfering and give them the required math help. My daughter who is in 5th grade has been a math lover since she started doing math. But now as she is growing and faced with more and more mathematical problems, I notice her shying away from even the simple math. This is when I decided that she needs help with math. It is critical to assist the children when ever they are faced with any sort of difficulty so that they do not develop a disliking for that particular subject or task.

Importance of learning

Learning should be meaningful, productive, purposeful and progressive in nature. Same is true with mathematics, where math helps in development of mental, emotional and social development. Where math has a practical and behavioral value, is functional in learning higher and more complex advanced phase of the subject. The parent’s responsibility is to ensure that the student’s interest in the subject is intact and is always stimulated to do more and more. One should not hesitate in seeking the right help for the child. If you are not able to find enough time to guide your child or it’s not in your ability to guide him in a professional manner then you should not be uncertain in finding a good math helper for your child.

Find new innovative ways to keep interested

But the idea is not to give up on the subject just because the child finds it a little difficult. As a parent you should start getting involved with your child’s everyday homework and try to explain the concepts to him and encourage him to attempt at solving the problems himself. Most children hesitate from taking help on math from the parent because the parent does the math differently than the school teacher has taught. This leaves the child in a more confused state. Ideally the parent should try to follow the teacher’s process and steps in solving the mathematical problem and explain the concept to the child. Avoid applying short-cut formulas when you are teaching the child to avoid any sort of conflict in approach.  The children would enjoy math if you involve it with some math educational games or household chores. This way they will come to know that math is not to be dreaded and it’s only a way of life. Math helps us deal with everyday situation of counting, multiplying and dividing etc. Another interesting way to teach your child is to get online math help together and sit through the online math educational assignments with your child, showing him that there is great learning scope for him. We have to inculcate the love for learning into the child’s mind, by making conscious efforts to encourage him explore more and more on the subject. The children are amazed when they come face to face with interesting problem solving challenges online and feel secure with the parent sitting next to them.

Math help on internet

You can look for free math help websites in the internet; this will be good option for your child’s math help needs.  There are numerous educational websites which offer help for children in variety of topics some charge you for the help while there are others which offer help without any charges. Obviously the amount of help or guidance the child will receive from the paid site would be much more than the unpaid one. But this does not mean that the unpaid website doesn’t give education. There are a number of websites offering free help with math. Apart from that a number of social networking websites and forums are a big help if you require guidance. You just need to post your question in one of the appropriate forums and you would find that the solution is given to you by people who are a part of that forum or social networking site. Internet is immensely popular with kids who are technologically inclined and learning math with the help of computer technology maintains their interest in the subject for a longer time.

Link with other subjects

Another way to keep the children interested in math even if they are not too fond of it is by linking math study with other subjects. You can connect math with science or social studies or even with writing. Depending on the student’s likings you can connect math with the subject of his choice. This will take the fear of math away and the child will develop interest in math. You can ask your child to find out the distance between sun and each of the planets by using the scientific notions. For social studies you can ask the child to draw graphs based on interpretations. There are many more ways to help learn math, you need to guide the child well.

We should let them understand that homework is the most important part of education and without proper education they can’t be succeeded in their life. Parents, especially mother is the best teacher in a child’s life. The way, she can guide a child, no other can! However, sometimes, it becomes hard for the parents to help children doing homework. In that case, they can take advantage of online tutoring services like tutorteddy.com.
